Workshop Overview

The implementation of electronic procurement processes for all procurement activities, including sourcing, ordering, commissioning, invoices and payments has tremendous benefits for both the buyer and the supplier.

Electronic Procurement increases the efficiency in the procure-to-pay cycle including reduction in cycle time and reduction in transaction costs. Technological solutions can also improve the purchasing power of organisations by facilitating a collaborative arrangement.

Certain sectors like the retail, car or aircraft manufacturers are well developed; others like the governments, public corporations or the construction industry are lagging behind. This has created an increasing demand for the latter to catch up with the more advanced industries. Considering the fact that the government, public corporations and the construction industry are large contributors to the economy, they are undoubtedly big investors and they play important role in stimulating e-business generally in society as a whole.

All e-procurement solutions require proper planning, organisational commitment, resources, time and a financial investment. Therefore choosing to adopt e-procurement is never a decision taken by the procurement department only, it is a decision with wide reaching implications, which has to be supported by the whole organisation.

Success in reducing the cost of goods and services is critically dependent upon the implementation of good procurement practices, including the use of technology. However achieving process efficiencies is dependent upon business process redesign, with the technology supporting to enable better processes.

Achieving the benefits of e-procurement will require benchmarking of current organisation’s practices against best practices from more advanced region. This means proper change management is a critical success factor.

This workshop will highlight key topics and best practices and the latest international developments to maximise the benefits for buyers and suppliers.
