Workshop Overview

In many advanced economies today, companies are capitalizing on Energy Audit as a tool for inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows in a building, process or system with the goal to seek opportunities to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without negatively affecting the outputs. Many businesses are relying on Energy Auditing to help sustain their buildings and save energy. The savings through Energy Auditing has brought direct profits to these businesses. Apart from helping companies to run cost effective buildings, Energy Auditing has been proven to be effective in saving the environment and improving human comfort, health and safety.

Since, most of existing buildings are not energy efficient, there are several opportunities for building operators to upgrade these buildings with more efficient system designs and newer equipment. This workshop will describe easy methods of screening buildings for energy efficiency using utility data, and how to address the building owner’s concerns of efficiency and comfort. Delegates will learn systematic yet flexible approaches for auditing existing buildings in order to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs. Focus areas for energy auditing include building envelope, electrical systems, and HVAC systems. This workshop will also expose delegates to sound economic analysis to assess the cost effectiveness of energy efficiency measures as well as state-of-the-art calculations methods and simulation tools for energy analysis of existing buildings.

Workshop facilitator profile

The course facilitator is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering at a prestige engineering university in the United States. He is also the director of the Architectural Engineering Program at the university. He has conducted several research projects in a wide range of applications related to building energy systems and renewable technologies. He is considered one of the world’s best experts in energy efficiency of building systems. He has published over 10 books and handbook chapters as well as over 180 technical publications in referred journals and conference proceedings. He has received several awards from professional organizations including American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and International Solar Energy Society (ISES) for his service to promote and improve the engineering profession. He has conducted projects in several countries to promote energy efficiency and renewable technologies. In particular, he has conducted over 1000 energy audit of various residential, commercial, and industrial facilities throughout the world.
