About Your Course Facilitator

The Course Facilitator is an international expert in Machinery Vibration and Predictive Maintenance.  He is one of those rare engineers who combine a deep understanding of the theoretical aspects of condition monitoring with a passion for the practical applications of the technology.

He has consulted to wide variety of industries and has built up an extensive experience in practical vibration monitoring techniques that work effectively. His field of experience includes development of tool wear monitoring systems for CNC machine tools using force and vibration signals, incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) for data analysis and decision making, data mining, neural networks, wavelet analysis, time-frequency analysis, empirical and physical modelling and statistical analysis.  Some of the companies that have benefited from his experience include:

  • BP
  • SASOL
  • Qatargas
  • Qatar Petroleum
  • Saudi Aramco
  • ADNOC
  • Australia Power and Water
  • British Energy
  • ESKOM
  • Richard’s Bay Minerals
  • Hulett’s

The course facilitator is a registered professional engineer (PrEng) and is currently Associate Professor of Design and Mechatronics at University of Stellenbosch. He is mainly responsible for running and expanding the Department's programme in Mechatronic Engineering. He has presented numerous seminars on vibration analysis at conferences and workshops for more than 1,000 professionals in many different parts of the world, ranging from the USA, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Indonesia, Qatar and the UAE.  He always receives excellent reviews for his workshops, and his enthusiasm and down-to-earth manner makes for an enjoyable and instructive workshop.

He is the author and co-author of numerous technical papers on the subject of vibration monitoring, and also the co-author of ‘Practical Machinery Vibration Analysis and Predictive Maintenance’.  He has 2 patents and has published many technical papers.
