Workshop - Asia Pacific Print E-mail
orginal

Workshop Overview:

With global oil prices rising steadily, marine fuel oil or bunker fuel has deteriorated in quality over recent years. As a result, the number of disputes relating to supply quality has increased. It is essential for ship operators to be aware of the problems associated with the supply of bunker fuels, and to take steps to ensure that their ships are provided with fuel oil suitable for use by their ships’ power plant.

Industry practice and new legislation has seen improvements in the standards of sample taking, but with blending problems during the crude oil refining process, fuel oil standards have struggled to keep pace. As the cost of fuel is approximately 50 % of the cost of bunkering (complications include the heat expansion of fuel oils), bunkering needs to be done by competent staff efficiently and correctly executed to keep costs down and to save on unnecessary overpayments of bunkers.

This 3-day highly interactive and practical course is intended to provide a thorough understanding of the regulations of codes and standards. This course sets out guidelines and procedures to ensure that the correct quality and quantity of bunkers are being delivered safely and demonstrate how this efficiency may be achieved. It covers both practical and legal problems, including minimising the impact of any problems that do arise and new environmental legislation.

Workshop Facilitator Profile

The course facilitator has been a Senior Director and Project Manager of a specialist and highly respected marine consultancy, survey and training company. She has over 18 years experience delivering world-class technical advice and leadership.

She offers a range of metrology services traceable to International Standards, these include both dynamic and static measurement methods. In addition she acts as local correspondents for several major P & I Clubs and as risk and claim assessors for marine insurance organisations.

The company has been recognised as dynamic and innovative by achieving awards such as Telstra Small Business of the Year, BP Contractor of the Year and BP Safety Contractor of the Year amongst others.

She operates from her home base in Tasmania, Australia and has lectured widely in the Asia Pacific for Depts of Defence, Marine Regulatory Authorities and most Energy Majors, as well as several ship management and bunkering organisations. She is regular guest lecturer at the Australian Maritime College, in oil and chemical tanker operations and safety. She also presents STCW compliant specialist tanker training courses accredited by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

She has received accolades for her integrity and knowledge base of the oil and bunkering industries as evidenced by personal awards such as, Westpac Business Woman of the Year, Outstanding Woman of the Year, and being elected Fellow of both the Nautical Institute and the Australian Institute of Marine Surveyors.

She is routinely kept in touch with industry fundamentals through her in-house training and auditing of teams of surveyors conducting on-hire, bunker surveys, bulk liquid and the more usual marine surveys.

She is adept at developing and presenting specialist courses for offshore floating installations which focus on organisational aims. She is looking forward to co-ordinating this workshop on bunkering operations and hopes that delegates will take full advantage of the pre-course questionnaire, so that the workshop can review real rather than hypothetical issues for the participants.
