Workshop Overview

The course is designed for personnel who require a thorough understanding of corrosion, coupled with an overview of methods of prevention, inspection use of instrumentation and monitoring. Candidates will gain an appreciation on practical survey techniques to assess the condition of their structures on ships, offshore installations or a part of the infrastructure i.e. buildings, pipelines and general plant. The course will highlight tools, references, legislation & safety issues and outline problems with the increasing effects of litigation and arbitration.

Comprehensive CASE STUDIES outlining real time failures, their assessment and remedial actions undertaken will also be covered during the course.

 

Facilitator Profile

The Course Facilitator is the Managing Partner of Lithgow Associates. Lithgow Associates are Independent Corrosion Consultants specialising in Failure Analysis, Litigation & Arbitration, Material Selection and Education and Training Services.

He was the founder of Trainers and Peer of the internationally recognised NACE USA -Coating Inspection and Certification Programme. He is a Visiting Lecturer for the MSc Material Science Course– Coatings - Imperial College London. He currently co-ordinates the Lifetime Management of Materials (previously National Corrosion Service) Help and Advice service on behalf of the UK Department of Trade and Industry. He has also undergone CUBS (Cardiff University Bond Solon) Expert Witness Training. Additionally, he is President of the International Institute of Marine Surveying and Joint Founder of The Institute of Maritime Conservation.

Some of Peter’s main projects have been:

Responsible for selecting the materials for the renovation of the Albert Memorial London, surveying and reporting on some 500,000m2 of failed coating applied to 4 VLCC’s tanks for a middle eastern ship-owner and undertaking an Audit and developing a long term  (12 year) maintenance painting strategy to a Far Eastern oil company owning some 230 offshore structures. Investigating a major coating failure of vessel linings (GOSP’s - 20 in number) for Aramco. He was retained as a Consultant to the Exxon Chad-Cameroon Pipeline project evaluating and advising on all aspects of the material selection and inspection of the pipeline coatings.


He is currently involved and retained as an expert on a 300million US$ litigation case on behalf of a major oil operator also a 150 million US$ arbitration to be fought in the International Court of Arbitration Geneva.
