Workshop Overview

It has been said that, in some organizations, up to 50% of the money spent on Facilities Management services in a building is wasted. Unfortunately nobody knows which 50%!

It is vitally important to ensure that every dollar spent on Facilities Management really counts. Many organizations sprinkle their budget thinly across all services rather than concentrate on those areas where money really needs to be spent. This often results in poor standards of service delivery and poor reliability. With many services, both technical and non technical to deliver, a significant failure of any one of them can be disastrous to the business.

In order to resolve the problem effectively, there are a number of tools and techniques available. These will help to ensure cost effective facilities management but should also ensure that contractors and service providers work in the most cost and time effective ways. Effective expenditure and control should also improve reliability of the building and the systems in it.

A further concern relates to the issues of energy efficiency and sustainability. Both of these important areas have an increasingly significant effect upon facilities management expenditure- an effect that will become more important throughout the world in the coming years. Moreover, energy savings partly depend upon the existing building but more importantly on how the building is run. Too often, facilities managers fail to understand the processes and equipment involved and as a result they fail to achieve realistic savings.

This course is aimed at facilities management practitioners and professionals who wish to understand more about how they can become more effective in their companies. It is also aimed at personnel who have recently become, or are about to become, professionals in the said industry. It will discuss and develop ideas and strategies for both soft services (non technical) and hard services (technical). Furthermore, this workshop caters to those with or without previous technical knowledge.
