Workshop Overview

This is an advanced training course primarily intended for personnel involved in the production optimization and performance of gas lift wells. Achieving optimum flowing conditions for a well is vital to the economic success of the field production performance and reservoir management strategy.

This course introduces the important concept of inflow and vertical flow relationships, and identifies the factors influencing well performance. The course is by no means an exhaustive treatment of gas lift engineering, but it gives a sound knowledge of gas lift well design, and gas lift gas allocation optimization and the implication at maximizing oil production.

The course is designed for participants from a wide range of petroleum engineering disciplines, they will work a case study on gas lift gas mandrels spacing, gas lift gas casing pressure setting, gas lift performance plot. After attending this course, participants will be able to identify, diagnose, analyze and solve gas lift well performance problems.

Workshop covers the following areas:

  • Well System Approach
  • Well Performance Analysis
  • Gas Lift System
  • Gas Lift Well Design and Analysis
  • Gas lift Well Performance Modeling
  • Practical Industry Case Studies

About the Trainer

The trainer is a Senior Principal Petroleum Engineering consultant based in the UAE with strong expertise in Production Technology, Well Operations, Artificial Lift (especially gas lift), Asset modeling & Optimization and training.

He has an illustrious career spanning over 30 years, of which 24 years is in the upstream oil and gas industry. He is an industry expert in gas lift and production system optimization. He has a good appreciation of all disciplines of petroleum engineering with special emphasis in areas of well completions & workovers, well problem diagnosis and remediation, and selection, design, operation and optimization of artificial lift systems.

For the most part of his career, he has worked for major companies like Conoco and Weatherford. A very familiar name in gas lift industry circles worldwide, he has made significant contribution by developing new approaches to gas lift design and trouble shooting for large volume gas lift applications. His work in the modeling of dynamic performance, reliability and selection of gas lift valves is note-worthy.  He has handled many major production optimization modeling projects for major operators and this has helped in debottle-necking and improving productivity of their assets.

He has authored, presented and published several technical papers for SPE.and has designed and taught several training courses on well performance evaluation, gas lift and production system optimization all over the world.

Key Benefits of Attending this Workshop

  • Understand: the importance of  a well flowing conditions to achieve optimum flowrate and maximize oil recover
  • Learn: about fundamentals issues on gas lift concept, equipment and gas lift gas allocation optimization, analyze, identify, diagnose and solve gas lift well performance problems
  • Reduce: operating costs and increase oil production through effective modelling of gas lift   systems
  • Find out: the negative effect of back pressure on production performance
  • Acquire: the knowledge to design an effective gas lift well, with right mandrel spacing, lift gas injection depth, valve unloading process and gas injection pressure requirement
  • Discuss: your specific gas lift problems with an expert

Session Wrap with Trainer
The final session will culminate with a one on one discussion session with the trainer to discuss the various issues encountered with artificial gas lift projects in the region.

Participants are required to bring their laptops
