Workshop Overview

The objectives of this 3-day course are to acquire a thorough understanding of critical maintenance, trouble-shooting and failure prevention systems to ensure safety and reliability of oil and gas transmission pipelines. The course offers an overview of both onshore and offshore pipeline threats and techniques for hazard / risk identification and subsequently explains development and implementation of effective mitigation, monitoring and corrective action strategies. These include essential inspection, anomaly processing and fitness for service analysis methods. The course lessons are driven home through a series of 10 multi-disciplinary case-study class exercises developed from the instructor’s personal experiences encountered in 30 years of pipeline integrity involvement.

The 1st day will be focused on pipeline configuration designs, safety systems, standards and hazard / threat identification, risk analysis and risk management. The 2nd day will be devoted to corrosion, pipeline monitoring / inspections and maintenance, including routine and progressive pigging. The 3rd day will focus on chemical treatments, repairs, contingency and emergency response planning and the role of root cause failure analysis in failure prevention.

Key Benefits for Attending this Event

  • UNDERSTAND the key features of pipeline designs for safe and reliable operations.
  • LEARN the process of pipeline threat / Hazard identification, Risk Ranking and Risk Management
  • GAIN insights into corrosion fundamentals and the unique pipeline hazards caused by internal and external corrosion (ECDA/ICDA)
  • APPRECIATE the techniques for pipeline monitoring, inspections and fitness-for-service (FFS) analyses.
  • OPTIMIZE Routine/Progressive Pigging and chemical treatments to help ensure pipeline integrity.
  • DEVELOP knowledge of additional important pipeline maintenance activities, including Scale, Wax, and Hydrate control.
  • IDENTIFY business continuity/contingency planning, emergency response and pipeline repair planning requirements.
  • APPLY root-cause failure analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement to enchance failure prevention.

About your Course Facilitator

The Facilitator is president and lead consultant for of a consulting firm specializing in oil, gas and pipeline integrity, materials and corrosion engineering. He has 30 years experience with Amoco and BP in a variety of integrity management roles. These not only included USA based corrosion and materials consulting, but in latter years, his assignments focused on development and implementation of integrity management strategies in direct support of major production / pipeline operations in Norway, Egypt, Trinidad and Indonesia. Throughout his career, he has been involved with pipeline maintenance, trouble-shooting and failure prevention, including corrosion management, routine and progressive pigging, flow assurance, inspections, fitness for service analysis and repair / remediation, for onshore, offshore and subsea systems.

The Course Facilitator obtained B.S. and Ph. D. degrees from the University of Illinois, Urbana, IL USA. He is a member of Society of Petroleum. Engineers., National. Association of Corrosion Engineers and American Society for Metals and has authored 48 papers and presentations on oil and gas integrity issues.

Some of his Projects and Practical Experience include:

  • Pipelines, Risers, SBMs, FSO ˛ Development of IM strategies & execution plans for pigging, chemical treatment, intelligent pigging, riser rehabilitation and subsea inspections / repairs.
  • Pipeline Rehabilitation & Inspections ˛ Definition and execution of progressive pigging of aged pipelines, inspections by intelligent pigging, ROV / CP surveys and fitness-for-service evaluations.
  • Mechanical Integrity ˛ inspections, corrosion control, chemical treatments, equipment certifications and intelligent pigging.
  • Materials & Corrosion ˛ Comprehensive corrosion monitoring, mitigation and materials recommendations.
  • Subsea Operations ˛ underwater inspections, maintenance and repairs to structures, pipelines and SBM oil export systems.
  • QA / QC / Document Control – maintenance of engineering specifications / drawings and management of change backlogs; provider of QA/QC services.
  • Process / Process Safety – process safety (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP) consulting and discipline process engineering.

Who Should Attend

Pipeline Engineers/Operators/Project Managers/Maintenance/Inspection/Operations/Rehabilitation | Pipeline Integrity Management Personnel | Service Professionals who are involved with the maintenance, design, inspection and repair of oil and gas pipelines | Oil and gas companies that own or operate pipelines, or that plan to own or operate pipelines, or that depend on pipelines to deliver fuel or products | Oil and gas equipment supplier companies selling capabilities to firms that own or operate pipelines, or that plan to do so

And other senior executives involved in anyway with Oil and Gas Pipelines.
