Workshop facilitator profile

The trainer is an international banking and development finance consultant and trainer. His services include bank management at senior levels (including board membership); management of start-up financial institutions in developing countries; establishment and management of credit and marketing strategies in banks, including product development; loan and portfolio reviews; staff coaching and training (seminars and on-the-job training); establishment of client relationship management function; project management. He is also an expert in design and implementation of financial sector reform and programs in developing countries (including design of loan guarantee and SME loan programs), and for French and European authorities.

Formerly a banker, the trainer was the International Project Manager at Natexis, one of the major French corporate banks. His job was to create new offices, buy, build or resize branches, and also to recruit the staff and define procedures and processes, with regard to local regulations and general corporate standards. This gave him a broad experience of banking practices in several countries.

As a consultant, over the years, the trainer worked on some major SMEs finance projects. In France, he designed the strategy of Oséo/Banque du Développement des PME, the public French financial institution devoted to support the funding of SMEs. He played a major role in assisting the Board in the preparation of the 5 years business plan. This includes establishing a consolidation & repositioning strategy for the Bank, mission and values; conducting market researches and defining precise targets for all business lines (loans, guaranty, discount, trade finance) and developing new services for SME.

In Tunisia, he was an advisor to the IMF & the World Bank, playing an important role as an expert in SME Banking for a “Financial Sector Assessment Program”. His tasks includes recommending new approaches on SMEs risks, new commercial challenges (based on customers’ real needs) & new policies (notably for the management of non performing loans). In Saudi Arabia, he helped the Riyad Bank for the implementation of the SME banking strategy (identifying and qualifying gaps between existing IT Systems and needs for the SME business) and designed an implementation plan for the new IT/MIS system.

Conceptual and analytical, he wrote several publications and recently an article on “the supply to SMEs” in a French renowned financial review. Yet, he is highly operational in his recommendations.
