Overview

The Human Resource industry’s biggest challenge right now surrounds their organization’s most precious asset, human capital. Unfortunately, this asset is also highly volatile. Organizations are having increasing difficulty retaining their talents especially those they consider their top performers.

The emergence of Generation Y is bringing with them a whole new set of priorities and values. They are more interested in achieving a holistic life, therefore demanding more emphasis on their work-life balance. There are several concerns that are currently sweeping the human resource community, such as talent retention, succession planning and employee development. Though this challenges have always been around, new methods of tackling them need to be formulated in coping with the changing global workforce.

Therefore, human resource professionals have to step up to this new platform, to align their objectives with their organization’s goals. A huge chunk of the workforce consist of baby boomers who are approaching their retirement age. The supply of talent to replace them is far below its demand, which is causing many organizations to compensate these new comers highly, even though they may not have the required experience and skills. This phenomenon is leading to high turnover rates mainly due to employees who lose their motivation which happens to be a direct result of non-performance.

Hence, in order to address the present concerns, there is a need to address the emergence of challenges in acquiring and retaining human capital.
