Course Facilitator

The Course Facilitator is currently working as Superintendent, Processing Engineering & Controls Group at ConocoPhilips, San Francisco Refinery, Rodeo, CA. Before assuming his present responsibilities, he led the modeling group in Gas Technology.

He has over 30 years of experience in Chemical, Refining, Dyes and Dyes Intermediate industries. He specializes in distillation, advanced control, simulation and optimization. Before the Conoco and Phillips merger, he led the Modeling Center of Excellence (MCOE) for Conoco’s Downstream organization. He was responsible for focusing on the creation, implementation, and support of process modeling technology at Conoco, consistent with established global best practices to achieve and sustain excellence in rigorous process modeling. He also developed an implemented a comprehensive Technical Training Program for downstream engineers.

The course facilitator joined Conoco as Distillation Consultant and provided support to its global business in downstream and upstream. He is responsible for distillation column design, start-up and shutdown support, inspection, troubleshooting and optimization, and training of engineers and operators. He is currently supervising a group of controls and process engineers. Most of them have over 20 years of experience. His training program based on practical examples and hands-on experience won wide recognition by operators. He established and successfully led Fractionation Best Practices Network for four years. He was nominated for Conoco’s Technology Excellence Award. Recently, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Fractionation Network for coaching and mentoring.

He has published several papers in various fields, such as advanced control, heterogeneous and enzymatic catalysis, distillation, modeling, and reverse micellar solutions. He has also contributed to Henry Kister’s book ‘Distillation Troubleshooting’.
