Workshop - Asia Pacific Print E-mail
orginal

Brief Introduction of the event

Demand for welding services in Asia is set to expand as foreign investment boosts the general level of industrial infrastructure and manufacturing activity in the region. The spill-over effects from industrial sectors benefiting from an increase in investment are likely to boost the demand for welding equipment and consumables.

This is especially so in the oil and gas sectors with exploration and production activities taking centre stage in the next few years, and will encourage developments in welding technology.

This course provides a much needed source of authoritative information on the complex subject of welding. It provides a comprehensive run-down of the complex science of welding-processes, selection of power sources, weld metallurgy, weldability of metals, testing and inspection techniques. It will cover welding processes, welding consumables, design of welded joints, applied welding metallurgy and heat treating, welding quality control, non-destructive testing and major International Welding Codes and Standards such as AWS and API.

About the Course Facilitator

The course facilitator has been involved with welding and brazing since 1969, with both fusion and the solid state processes and has 30 years experience employed as a welding consultant to design, fabrication, manufacturing, project management, installation, materials selection, quality assurance & control, inspection, technical evaluation, repair & maintenance of Pressure Vessels, Gas Process Trains, Storage Tanks, Pipelines, and Process/Power Piping.

He is currently the State Technology Manager for an institution providing technical and consultancy services to majority of the pressure vessel fabrication industry. Herein, he is tasked to coordinate and manage all petrochemical-related projects, audit assignments for ASME VIII, ASME IX, EN729 & ISO 3834, Pressure Equipment Group including Petrochemical Refineries, Chemical Plants, Power Stations, Alumina Refineries, Nickel Refineries and Fabricators.

Furthermore, he is a certified auditor to ISO 9001, EN 729, ISO 3834, API 510 ( Pressure Vessels ), API 653 ( Storage Tanks ), API 570 ( Piping ), ASNT Level II, ASME & BS Standards ( Advanced Pipe Welding Techniques & Theory ) and AWS Welding Inspector.

The course facilitator has had several published papers presented in different international conferences and journals including the Operating Pressure Equipment Conference and the International Journal of Pressure Vessels & Piping.
Previously, he has had numerous essential challenging responsibilities such as Design/Materials/Inspection/Corrosion & Welding Engineer, Metallurgist Consultant, Quality Assurance Manager and Fabrication Manager for prominent companies like:

  • NZ Refining Company
  • L&C Steinmuller
  • TUV-Rheinland
  • Boart Research Laboratory
  • TRW Valves Wolverhampton

Key Benefits of Attending The Workshop

  • MASTER writing and qualifying welding procedures that comply with ASME Code, AWS and API Standards
  • IDENTIFY the tools and techniques associated with welding-related fabrication and quality control
  • LEARN practical aspects of fabrication and inspection which should be taken into consideration in the design of equipment
  • INCREASE knowledge on fabrication and erection plans and incorporate some quality control requirements into contractual documents
  • APPLY new insights into ASME Code, AWS and API Standards to facilitate interpretation, understanding and compliance
  • UNDERSTAND and examine the requirements for welder and operator qualification
  • CLARIFY welding processes, common variables and basic welding metallurgy
  • DEVELOP economical compliance with ASME, AWS and API Standards when writing and qualifying welding and brazing procedures
  • AVOID costly design mistakes and common day-to-day pitfalls of welding solutions

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for anyone involved in inspection of welding construction, qualifying welders, brazers and operators; or others involved in writing and qualifying welding and brazing procedure specifications. It includes those responsible for reviewing supplier procedures, auditing or reviewing in-house procedures and qualifications; and those who estimate jobs where compliance of ASME Codes, AWS and API Standards is needed.

Attendees would include:

Inspection engineers | Mechanical engineers | Project engineers | Maintenance management | Electrical engineers | Non Destructive Testing (NDT) management | Quality assurance management | Auditors | Testing laboratory personnel | Technical management
